Ayurveda is an ancient holistic medicinal practice and study, originated 5000 Years ago in India. Ayurveda highly emphasizes on Spiritual, Physical, and Mental well-being of the human body. Ayurveda is a combination of Sanskrit words ‘Ayu’ – ‘Life’ and ‘Veda’ – ‘Science.’ Ayurveda is not just about the medicine to cure the disease. Instead, it is a practice of a healthy lifestyle that highly focuses on the food and natural ingredients acting as an immunity builder to prevent severe medical conditions from happening.

Three basic principles of Ayurveda governs the life on Earth, ‘Vatta – Air,’ ‘Pitta – Fire and Water,’ and ‘Kapha – Earth and Water.’

They are commonly known as tri-energies and are responsible for any balance or imbalance caused in the living component.

Vatta (‘Vah-tah’)

  • ‘Vatta’ means ‘Air’ that regulates the flow in any living being
  • It focuses on natural areas like, ‘Bones,’ ‘Thighs,’ ‘Joints,’ ‘Nerve tissues,’ and ‘Brain
  • ‘Vatta’ also regulates bodily functions like blood circulation, food digestion, breathing, body flexibility, urination, nerve regulation
  • Balance Vatta by maintaining a healthy diet, meditation, physical activities, mindfulness, and an appropriate sleep schedule

Pitta (‘Pih-tah’)

  • ‘Pitta’ means ‘Fire and Water’ that regulates heat and energy in the body
  • It focuses on natural areas like, ‘Bones,’ ‘Thighs,’ ‘Joints,’ ‘Nerve tissues,’ and ‘Brain
  • Imbalance in Pitta often leads to disorders like infection, ulcers, heart issues, fever, inflammation. Balance Pitta by maintaining an adequate diet, exercise, and meditation routine

Kapha (‘Kah-fah’)

  • ‘Kapha’ means ‘Earth and Water’ that regulates body structure and functioning
  • It focuses on areas like ‘Ligaments,’ ‘Tendons,’ ‘Throat,’ ‘Chest,’ ‘Lymph’
  • Kapha acts as a food moistener, joint lubricant, and energy storage. Overeating or binge eating, emotional imbalance, no physical activities lead to disorder in ‘Kapha’

Atharvaveda describes Ayurveda as ‘ तन्मना भोज्नगतः चित्तः’ in Sanskrit that translates as ‘Mindful eating.’
Our positive or negative state of mind while eating impacts its effects on our body.

Eating healthy food with a peaceful mind leads to healthful digestion, while binge eating with a depressed or negative state of mind shuts off the food digestion at the cephalic phase.
